Scorpio season 2026 begins on October 23, and it arrives with an unusually crowded sky. Mercury turns retrograde the very next day. Venus is already mid-retrograde. Pluto, the sign’s modern ruler, has just turned direct. That is a lot of reversing for a sign already known for intensity. This guide gives the exact dates, explains what is actually happening in the sky, and covers what astrological tradition suggests doing with the month.
It’s worth saying plainly, same as with any topic here: astrology is not scientifically validated. No controlled study has found that planetary positions shape events or personality. What follows pairs real astronomical dates with the traditional meanings astrologers attach to them, and keeps the two clearly separate.
When Is Scorpio Season 2026?
Wikipedia’s entry on Scorpio lists the 2026 tropical dates as October 23 to November 22. That is the stretch when the Sun sits between 210 and 240 degrees of ecliptic longitude. A direct calculation of the Sun’s position agrees. The Sun enters Scorpio at about 09:30 UTC on October 23 and leaves at about 07:20 UTC on November 22. Depending on your time zone, the date can shift by a day at either end.
Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac. It is a water sign and a fixed sign, which astrologers read as emotional depth combined with staying power. Its traditional ruler is Mars. Its modern ruler is Pluto. Venus is said to be in detriment here, meaning it is considered uncomfortable in this sign. That detail matters this year, as you’ll see below.
Key Dates During Scorpio Season 2026
| Date (UTC) | What happens | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| October 23 | Sun enters Scorpio | Season begins |
| October 24 | Mercury turns retrograde in Scorpio | Review, revise, and double-check |
| Around October 25 | Venus, retrograde, slips back into Libra | Relationship themes shift sign |
| November 13 | Mercury turns direct | Communication tends to ease |
| Around November 14 | Venus turns direct in Libra | End of the Venus retrograde |
| November 22 | Sun enters Sagittarius | Season ends |

Mercury and Venus Retrograde Overlap
The crowded sky is the real story of this season. Mercury is retrograde from October 24 to November 13, which covers roughly three weeks of Scorpio season. Venus has been retrograde since October 3 and stays that way until mid-November. Both retrogrades run alongside the Sun’s time in Scorpio.
A retrograde is an optical effect, not a real change of direction. Wikipedia’s explanation of apparent retrograde motion explains that planets appear to stop and drift backward against the stars as Earth and the planet pass each other on their orbits. For outer planets, Earth is the faster car on the highway. Mercury and Venus are inner planets, so the effect happens as they pass between Earth and the Sun. Wikipedia’s table puts the average at about 22 days for Mercury and 41 for Venus. This year’s Mercury retrograde lasts about 20 days, and Venus’s about 42.
Astrologers read Mercury retrograde as a window for review, with the usual advice being to double-check contracts, back up files, and expect crossed wires. Venus retrograde is read as a time to revisit relationships and values. Because Venus is in detriment in Scorpio, some astrologers treat its early retrograde here as especially pointed. That is interpretation, not measurement.
What Pluto and Mars Add to the Mix
Pluto, the modern ruler, turns direct in mid-October at about 3 degrees Aquarius. In astrological terms, a planet turning direct is said to resume forward momentum, so the themes Pluto governs, such as power, control, and transformation, are read as moving forward again just as the season opens.
Mars, the traditional ruler, spends the whole season in Leo, another fixed sign. Fixed signs are associated with persistence and resistance to change, so the practical reading is a season that favors holding ground over starting fresh. Both points are interpretive. They are traditional readings, not predictions that can be tested.
What Tradition Suggests Doing During Scorpio Season
Astrologers describe Scorpio season as a time for depth over breadth. The advice usually falls into three themes.
Look Inward Rather Than Outward
The sign’s water element is linked to emotion and intuition. Traditional advice is to journal, reflect on patterns, and avoid rushing decisions. With Mercury retrograde, that advice lines up neatly with the idea of revisiting old plans before launching new ones.
Finish What Is Unfinished
Scorpio is tied to endings and transformation in traditional astrology. A common suggestion is to close loops, such as clearing clutter, settling lingering conflicts, and ending commitments that no longer fit. The Venus retrograde adds a similar prompt around relationships.
Be Cautious With Big New Starts
The standard retrograde advice is to delay major purchases, signatures, and launches until after November 13. If a deadline forces your hand, astrologers suggest extra review rather than avoidance.

Is There Any Science Behind Scorpio Season?
No. Wikipedia’s overview of astrology and science states that astrology “has not demonstrated its effectiveness in controlled studies and has no scientific validity” and is regarded as pseudoscience. It adds that no proposed mechanism explains how planetary positions could affect people without contradicting basic biology and physics.
The astronomy in this article is solid. The Sun really does cross into Scorpio on October 23, and Mercury really does appear to reverse on October 24. What those events mean for your mood, your relationships, or your week is the part with no evidence behind it.
That doesn’t make the framework useless. A named season gives a reason to pause, reflect, and tidy up loose ends. People often benefit from that kind of structure, whatever its origin.

Isn’t it a little convenient that Scorpio season always sounds like “intense, deep, transformative”?
Fairly, yes, and it’s worth naming directly. The descriptions are broad enough to fit almost any month, and people tend to notice events that match them. The dates and retrogrades are verifiable astronomy. The interpretations layered on top of them are tradition, not evidence.
The Honest Answer
Scorpio season 2026 runs from October 23 to November 22. It overlaps with a Mercury retrograde from October 24 to November 13 and the tail end of a Venus retrograde that ends around November 14. The astronomy is checkable, and the meanings are traditional. Use the dates to plan, use the themes as prompts for reflection, and treat the predictions as a lens rather than a forecast.
