Born on November 11? Numerology gives that birthday a Master 33 in 2027, the rarest number in the system (see our 2027 Personal Year guide). Run the same date through the tarot year card 2027 method and the answer is The Devil.
Born on December 30? You get The Star, and you share it with no other birthday on the calendar. Born on January 2 or February 1? The Hierophant, and only those two dates. Meanwhile nine of the 22 Major Arcana cards cannot be anyone’s year card in 2027 under the standard sum-and-reduce method.
Below: a calculator, the 13 cards that are possible, what the tradition says about each, why the arithmetic behaves this way, and a simple protocol for testing whether the card fits your year. Fair warning: no study has shown that a birth date or a tarot card can predict a year. Treat the year card as a framework for reflection, not a verdict.
Your Tarot Year Card for 2027
Pick your birth month and day. The year is fixed at 2027.
How to Calculate Your Tarot Year Card 2027
The sum is the one tarot teachers use for the birth card, with the current year in place of your birth year. Four steps:
- Write your birth month as a number. March is 3, November is 11.
- Write your birth day as a number.
- Add 2027.
- Add the digits of the total until the result is 22 or less. In 2027 one pass is always enough. Match the result to the Major Arcana, where The Fool is 0 and The World is 21.
Born June 15: 6 + 15 + 2027 = 2048. Digits: 2 + 0 + 4 + 8 = 14. Your tarot year card 2027 is 14: Temperance.
Born November 11: 11 + 11 + 2027 = 2049. Digits: 2 + 0 + 4 + 9 = 15. Your tarot year card 2027 is 15: The Devil.
Here is the structural quirk. Adding a month and day to 2027 always lands between 2029 (January 1) and 2070 (December 31). The digit sums of those numbers run from 5 to 17 and never leave that range. Only 13 cards can be a 2027 year card, from The Hierophant (5) to The Star (17). The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement and The World cannot appear.
The spread is lopsided. Counting every date including February 29, The Hermit (9) and Death (13) cover 41 birthdays each, the most of any card. The Hierophant covers two. The Star covers one.
Where the Year Card Comes From
Tarot began in 15th-century Italy as an ordinary card game called tarocchi (see the history of tarot). The birth card and year card methods are far newer. Today the method is taught in Mary K. Greer’s Archetypal Tarot (Weiser, 2021). Tarot author Theresa Reed writes that Greer credits cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien with helping develop the birth card idea behind these methods.
One historical detail changes the arithmetic. In older Marseille-style decks Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith deck swapped them, so Strength is 8 and Justice is 11. This guide uses the 1909 numbering, the same one in our Tarot guide.

The 2027 Diagnostic Grid: Five Binary Splits
Treat this as an operational grid for orientation. The five splits are our own grouping, not a traditional system. Cards not listed in a row sit in the middle of that split.
| Split | Leans one way | Leans the other |
|---|---|---|
| Who holds the decision? | Self: The Hermit, Strength, The Hanged Man, The Star | Others: The Hierophant, The Lovers, Justice, The Devil |
| What is the pace? | Slow: The Hermit, The Hanged Man, Temperance, The Star | Fast: The Chariot, Wheel of Fortune, The Tower, Death |
| What does the effort do? | Builds: The Hierophant, The Chariot, Justice, Temperance | Clears: Death, The Tower, The Devil, The Hanged Man |
| Where does attention go? | Inward: The Hermit, Strength, The Hanged Man, The Star | Outward: The Lovers, The Chariot, Wheel of Fortune, Justice |
| How exposed is the year? | Contained: The Hierophant, Justice, Temperance, Strength | Exposed: The Tower, Wheel of Fortune, The Devil, Death |
Recorded Symptoms: How a Year Card Shows Up
Both entries below are illustrative composites, not real clients.
Recorded Symptom 1: a December 30 birthday, The Star. The year opens with a long-delayed repair: a debt plan, a reconciliation, a return to training. Hope arrives early. The failure point is month five, when nothing has followed the hope. Containment: one visible task per week.
Recorded Symptom 2: a November 11 birthday, The Devil. The numerology reading says 33, service to others. The card says attachment. Read together, the composite shows one pattern: an obligation carried out of habit, not choice. Protocol: list every standing commitment and mark the ones you would accept again today.
Insulation Protocols for Your Tarot Year Card 2027
Protocol 1: Record it on January 1. Write the date, the total and the card on one line. A card you have not written down cannot be tested.
Protocol 2: Read the reversed meaning too. The reversed text on our Tarot guide describes the same card when it is blocked or turned inward. It is the early-warning half of the reading.
Protocol 3: Test it every quarter. Check the card against what actually happened. If the theme does not fit, drop it. A diagnostic that never gets tested is just a horoscope.
Protocol 4: Keep the lenses separate. Your year card and your Personal Year number use different arithmetic. Read them as two separate lenses. Do not blend them into one story.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my tarot year card 2027 start on January 1 or on my birthday?
Teachers differ. Some use the calendar year. Others run the card from birthday to birthday. Pick one method and keep it for the full year.
Is my year card the same as my birth card?
No. The birth card uses your birth year and stays fixed for life. The year card swaps in the current year and changes every year.
Why can I only get cards 5 to 17 in 2027?
Because adding any month and day to 2027 gives a total between 2029 and 2070, and the digit sums of those totals run from 5 to 17. Cards 0 to 4 (including The Fool) and 18 to 21 cannot appear.
Is the year card the same as my Personal Year number?
No. The Personal Year number reduces your month and day separately and adds the year 11. The year card adds the raw month, day and 2027, then sums the digits. Born November 11, you get 33 in one system and The Devil in the other.
Can a tarot year card predict my year?
No study has shown that it can. Our guide to the Barnum effect explains why a reading can feel accurate anyway. The tradition offers a theme to reflect on and test against your actual year. Treat it that way.
The Aftermath: What 2028 Does to Your Card
On January 1, 2028 the year in the sum becomes 2028, so your total rises by 1. The card usually moves up one place: a June 15 birthday goes from 2048 (Temperance, 14) to 2049 (The Devil, 15). The exception is a total that ends in 9. It rolls into the next ten and the digit sum drops. A November 11 birthday goes from 2049 (The Devil, 15) to 2050 (The Chariot, 7).
Why Online Tarot Year Card 2027 Calculators Disagree
Run one birthday through three calculators and you may get three different cards. The cause is method, not mystery.
- Some add the month, day and year as whole numbers. Others add every single digit. In one worked example by Theresa Reed, the same birth date gives Judgement by the first method and Justice by the second. Read her birth card walkthrough.
- Some stop at 21 and others at 22. In 2027 it does not matter, because every total reduces to 17 or less.
- Some reduce all the way to a single digit, which would fold cards 10 to 17 onto 1 to 8.
- Some use your birth year instead of the current year. That calculates your birth card, not your year card.
